Commuting - Separation of Residence and Workplace (1997)

Berufspendler in DeutschlandThe spatial separation of functions in city regions made possible by the development of transport systems and mass car ownership has led households to choose residences regardless of workplace location. Because of this the number of work trips crossing municipal and county boundaries and the average length of work trips have continuously increased. In a contribution to a pilot volume of the Atlas Bundesrepublik Deutschland published by the Institut für Länderkunde in Leipzig work trip flows in Germany were analysed and visualised in three-dimensional surfaces.

A summary of Commuting in Germany can be found here.
