Spatial Data Base for Satellite-Based Localisation of Railway Wagons (1995- 1998)

In cooperation with the GIS group at IRPUD, the TIMTEC Gesellschaft für Telematiksysteme und Informationsmanagement GmbH, Lünen, is developing a satellite-based spatial information system for the localisation of railway freight wagons. The system under development works with data loggers attached to the wagons to determine their current location using the Global Positioning System (GPS). The data loggers communicate with a central computer via MODACOM, the mobile radio system for data communication of the Deutsche Telecom. The responsibility of IRPUD is to provide and update geocoded railway network and railway station data.
