Dortmund and the Railways (1997)

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first railway in the Ruhr Area, the Museum of Art and Cultural History of Dortmund in the summer of 1997 showed an exhibition 'Modern Dortmund - Created by the Railways'. IRPUD contributed to the exhibition by a series of 'time-space maps' showing the shrinking of space through the railways between 1840 and 2010 by a distortion of the familiar map image. In addition visitors of the exhibition could see the reduction of railway travel times from an arbitrarily chosen origin station in Europe between 1910 to 2010 using an interactive computer programme (see 'Visualisation of Acceleration').

The exhibit of the IRPUD can be found here.
