Urban Renewal

New Forms of Cooperation in Urban Renewal (1994- 1996)

This project studied new forms of cooperation between public and private actors in urban renewal projects in several European countries and so continued the work of the Arbeitsgruppe Bestandsverbesserung (Urban Renewal Group) at IRPUD on urban renewal projects abroad. The study gave local governments and private organisations (such as not-for-profit welfare institutions) an overview about how investors, banks and insurance companies may be integrated into policies for the renewal of disadvantaged urban neighbourhoods, how such policies may be financed, and what the concrete advantages and disadvantages of such cooperation are. The results were compiled in a manual.
